America Forward policy advisor, Shirley Sagawa, spoke to the committee about the critical importance of funding social innovation.
When an organization takes an out-of-the-box approach to solving a problem, it often finds few sources available for sustainable funding.
The Serve America Act will provide these organizations with much needed resources and support. As Shirley notes:
Serve America includes funding to support a social innovation fund network, called the “Community Solutions Funds Pilot Program,” (otherwise known as the social innovation fund) that will use federal dollars to leverage other public and private sector contributions to take our most innovative and effective organizations to scale.
We would like to join Shirley in applauding the Committee’s commitment to social innovation. You can read a full transcript of Shirley’s testimony here, and watch the hearing in its entirety here.
