The NonProfit Times highlighted the Social Innovation Fund as a vital piece of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, on March 27. The Social Innovation Fund—which will support the work of high-impact nonprofits, allowing government and nonprofit groups to work together to find innovative, effective solutions to the challenges facing our nation—is a critical element of the groundbreaking legislation.

The NonProfit Times quoted extensively from America Forward Director Kelly Ward in their discussion of the Fund:

America Forward….said the Social Innovation Fund is a vital step forward in fulfilling the administration’s commitment to invest in social innovation and expand opportunities for citizens to serve their communities.

“In communities across the country, there are innovative solutions to persistent social challenges. The Social Innovation Fund identifies these solutions wherever they exist and helps them grow to new communities,” said Kelly Ward, director of America Forward. “It also promotes greater innovation in the social sector and evaluates nonprofit performance based on results,” she said, adding that the fund provides the financial infrastructure and leverage to create a true growth capital market for the social sector.

We are so excited about the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, and the Social Innovation Fund it creates. As the Chronicle of Philanthropy points out, this groundbreaking legislation passed in large part due to a nationwide effort on the part of the service community.
