Advisory Board

Think New Mexico is a results-oriented, non-partisan, independent think tank seeking to improve the quality of life for all New Mexicans, especially working low and middle-income families. Think New Mexico develops effective, comprehensive, sustainable solutions to some of the most serious problems facing New Mexico. The group combines the traditional think tank research model with direct advocacy focused on educating the public, the media, and policymakers.

Results

  • Think New Mexico won passage of landmark education laws that have made full-day kindergarten accessible to every child in New Mexico and redirected millions of dollars a year out of the state lottery’s excessive administrative costs and into full-tuition college scholarships.
  • Think New Mexico led initiatives that repealed New Mexico’s regressive tax on food and reformed title insurance to lower closing costs for homebuyers and homeowners who refinance their mortgages.
  • Think New Mexico often speaks for those who are most vulnerable and who have little or no voice in the political process, as with its successful efforts to establish the first state-supported Individual Development Accounts to help low-income families begin building assets and to create a Strategic Water Reserve to protect and restore New Mexico’s rivers.
