In a speech Tuesday to Washington, DC philanthropists and leaders, First Lady Michelle Obama called on the philanthropic community to come together to support the work of innovative nonprofits. She also stressed the importance of partnerships in creating lasting change.
We need foundations and philanthropists to provide the integral support for our community organizations. But we also need those community organizations to provide support for all these volunteers we’re recruiting now. We need to harness this amazing amount of goodwill that we’re generating through this administration in a way that ensures that we serve all Americans to the best of our ability.
The First Lady highlighted her experiences leading Public Allies in Chicago and the ways in which long-term investment from foundations and corporations enabled her to achieve measurable outcomes. She also recognized the White House Office on Social Innovation as a vehicle to identify organizations and ideas that are changing the lives and provide them with the support necessary to take their proven solutions to scale.
