In an editorial on CNN, John Rice, Founder of Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), highlights the Social Innovation Fund as “a tremendous step in the right direction” to overcome many of our nation’s challenges. But in order to truly be successful he saud, “we need a broader pool of leaders with a deep understanding of the communities they are serving and who have the skills, experience and relationships required to succeed in leadership roles.” Rice calls for the need to grow organizations like MLT in order to fill the growing leadership gaps in business, government, and nonprofits with qualified minority executives. He argues that the nation’s next leaders must come from the communities that struggle most, and supported talent development initiatives will enable high-potential young people to move up and help guide social change efforts.
