Sports4Kids (recently renamed Playworks), an America Forward coalition member dedicated to addressing unruly schoolyard behavior and helping students become more focused on their academics, was the subject of a recent PBS NewsHour story. The piece illustrates the benefits of play for children and explains why administrators are willing to pay for the growing program. One principal interviewed in the segment says, “The teachers spend less time dealing with the problems on the playground in the classroom, so that means more instructional minutes right off the bat. The kids come back more refreshed.”
