Featured, Serve America Act

Today we celebrate the second anniversary of the passage of the landmark Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. Signed into law by President Obama on April 21, 2009, the Serve America Act authorized the largest expansion of national service in America in 75 years, expanding opportunities for millions of Americans to serve through increased support for local and national service organizations throughout the country, and, through the creation of a Social Innovation Fund, catalyzing cross-sector partnerships to invest in innovative, impact-driven organizations.

Through the Serve America Act, more citizens across the country are able to serve in their communities to tackle critical challenges such as the high school drop out rate, lack of access to quality health care, and challenges finding promising employment opportunities. Further, the Social Innovation Fund, which is now in its second round of grantee selection, is demonstrating the powerful ways government, philanthropy, and nonprofits can partner to grow what works and drive results.
