AF Coalition Members Step up During Crisis (Vol. 16)

Every week, America Forward is highlighting a few examples of the vital work being done by our Coalition members to support students, families, educators, workers, elected leaders, advocates, and communities across the country. If your organization has resources, an announcement, or a story that you would like to see included, please send it to america_forward@newprofit.org.

Alternative Staffing Alliance

As the COVID-19 crisis continues to impact communities throughout the United States, Alternative Staffing Alliance is prepared with comprehensive COVID-19 information and resources to help their community stay safe, healthy, and informed throughout the pandemic. They offer staffing operations resources, including adjusted practices and protocols to keep workers safe, as well as information on financial options, including tax deferral options and loan opportunities.

College Possible

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, College Possible immediately implemented a response plan – moving programming online, working to support students’ health and safety, and continuing to offer virtual coaching services. They’ve created a COVID-19 Resources and News section on their website, including specific resources for mental and physical health and wellness, food and nutrition services, students in high school and college students, and AmeriCorps members.

Diverse Charters

As the COVID-19 pandemic intersects with the legacy of systemic racism in America, Diverse Charters is working to ensure its community has all of the research and resources necessary to navigate this period. They’ve compiled information on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, research on the benefits of diversity, case studies and toolkits, information on the history of segregation in America, and more, in order to educate their community on these critical issues.

National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD)

Schools across the country are facing enormous challenges as they prepare for students to return. As school communities grapple with fundamentally altered classroom environments and approaches to education, NCLD has provided a resource: Planning for Equity and Inclusion: A Guide to Reopening Schools, which addresses public health and safety, informed and responsive planning, strategies for ensuring equity, and more, so that school officials, educators, students, and families can navigate the process of school re-entry.

Peer Forward

Peer Forward has teamed up with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to make resources to support Youth Activation free and available during the pandemic. As students, families, schools, and communities tackle existing barriers to college access and address new challenges in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Peer Forward offers these materials “as a cohesive collection to support schools along a continuum of Youth Activation.”
