Advancing Whole Learner Education

 

Last week, Arizona State Representative Jennifer Longdon (D-Phoenix) penned an op-ed in the Tucson Sun advocating to incorporate whole learner approaches to learning into fall plans, as schools work to address deep-rooted inequities and adjust to a changed landscape of education amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

She writes, “We need to change the existing perception of ‘achievement’ and take a more holistic view of the student involved in learning, focusing on the development of social, emotional, creative, cognitive and physical skills — commonly referred to as the ‘whole learner approach’ to education.”

Aimée Eubanks Davis, founder and CEO of Braven, offers advice for meeting the moment and ensuring that all students have access to high quality, if virtual, college and post-graduate experiences, in this piece from Education Week: “For at least two decades, they have done everything right. Everything we’ve told them their hard work should afford them is hanging in the balance at the 11th hour.
