America Forward and New Profit Statement on Threats Against HBCUs

America Forward and New Profit issued the following statement in response to a series of bomb threats aimed at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country:

“The violent threats that have forced the closure of at least 17 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) over the past several days are unacceptable, shameful and dangerous. These racist threats demand universal condemnation, and are particularly jarring as our nation celebrates Black community, culture, and contributions during Black History Month. These threats represent yet another manifestation of the persistent, systemic racism plaguing our country, and are a direct attack not only on these individual institutions, but on the spirit of diversity and opportunity that HBCUs embody. Amid the unprecedented disruption that all school communities have faced over the past two years, these threats further compound the additional challenges facing students, educators, staff, families, in the broader Black community. We know these institutions and their communities will remain resilient, as they have for generations. But in the face of continued hatred and growing threats of violence, we must also reaffirm our commitment to working alongside our grantee partners, America Forward Coalition members, HBCUs, and all institutions of higher education to ensure that all students have the opportunity to pursue their education free from fear and intimidation.”
