Dr. Pamela Cantor

Pamela Cantor, M.D., is the Co-Founder and CEO of The Human Potential L.A.B. Through The Human Potential L.A.B, Dr. Cantor advances and applies the latest scientific knowledge to challenge limiting assumptions about talent and ability, and to transform the environments and institutions that shape young people’s lives. Dr. Cantor’s work centers on a powerful and evidence-based conviction: human potential is not fixed—it is created. She champions research showing that talent exists everywhere, not on a bell curve; that the brain remains malleable well into young adulthood; that our brains and even our genomes are developing structures; and that relationships and environments profoundly shape who we become. All of this is in service to one North Star: that every young person has the opportunity and experience to become the fullest expression of themselves.

Dr. Cantor is also a physician, author, and nationally recognized thought leader on human development, learning, and potential. A child and adolescent psychiatrist by training, she began her career working with young people facing profound adversity—an experience that shaped her lifelong mission to help children heal, thrive, and realize the fullest expression of who they can become. She later founded Turnaround for Children (now part of the Center for Whole-Child Education at Arizona State University), where she translated the science of learning and development into tools and practices for schools. A trusted voice in the field, Dr. Cantor is the author of Whole-Child Development, Learning and Thriving: A Dynamic Systems Approach and The Science of Learning and Development. Her forthcoming book (2027) explores how human connection unlocks human possibility. She is a regular contributor to national conversations about education, equity, and human potential, including through her Substack, The Biology of Becoming.
