Every month, America Forward highlights examples of the vital work our Coalition members do to support students, families, educators, workers, elected leaders, advocates, and communities across the country. If your organization has resources, an announcement, or a story you would like to see included, please send it to america_forward@newprofit.org.

American Student Assistance

Helping middle and high school students explore career options early on helps them envision their futures and find success and confidence after graduation. That’s why American Student Assistance works nationwide to engage students, schools, and local partners to provide opportunities for career exploration. Earlier this month, they released a new paper on educator, leader, and caretaker attitudes towards alternative, non-degree pathways – Beyond Degrees – to expand on their previous data on student opinions. This winter, they launched a new webinar program for school leadership – Literacy Leadership: Developing a Vision For Equity and Inclusion Within Your School. This four session programming runs throughout February, and if you missed the webinars themselves, you can visit their website to view free notes and resources as well as other seminar opportunities, today!

Across the country, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) connects local leaders and developers to the resources they need to advance economic, health, educational, and housing opportunities to transform communities. To uplift their programming, they share the stories of their organizations’ work and successes on their website. This month, in honor of Black History Month, they highlight four organizations doing inspirational work within the LISC Fund Management’s Black Economic Development Fund.
